Health Careers Exploration for Students

- Health Careers Investigators is a day-long program developed by the University of Minnesota's Health Careers Center, gives high school students the opportunity to tour the U’s laboratories and meet with students and faculty who specialize in rural medicine. Health Careers Investigators will take place on April 21, 2008. The deadline for applications is March 14, 2008. Click here for more information.
- At "Career Day" events sponsored by local school districts and colleges, students participate in interactive presentations on health careers.
- Job shadowing opportunities exist for high school and college students participate in observing the work of a variety of health professionals.
- Health Occupation Students of America (H.O.S.A.) - H.O.S.A. is a national student organization whose mission is to promote career opportunities in health care and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. H.O.S.A. is for 9th-12th grade students.
- University on the Prairie is an intensive hands-on educational experience in four science-based areas important to the life and industries of Southern Minnesota: healthcare, food science, environmental science and engineering. Sixty students in grades 8-10 with high aptitude and/or academic achievement from school districts in Southwest Minnesota will be selected from the applicants to participate in the program. The program will be held August 5-7, 2008 at the Southwest Research and Outreach Center in Lamberton, MN. More details can be found in this brochure.
