K-12 Teachers
Are you looking for ways to help your students explore health careers? Our Health Careers Specialists create and present customized, age-appropriate, hands-on activities for your class, school or career fair. We’ve also got the resources to help you create your own presentation.
- Health Career Puppets - This is the only one of its kind in Minnesota aimed at K-2nd grade students. The Health Career Puppets go on a “Great Hospital Adventure” meeting different people in various health care careers.
- Health Career Enrichment Program (H.C.E.P.) - These distinctive educational kits are for 1st-6th grade classrooms. Each kit contains different hands-on activities, worksheets, books and videos that focus on healthy habits and health careers.
- K-12 Health Careers Lending Library allows instructors, community members, and health care providers to create programs about a range of health care issues. Includes DVDs, videos, games, train-the-trainer manuals, and anatomically correct medical models. Materials from the library can be obtained by contacting the Northeast AHEC regional office.
- Health Occupations Today (H.O.T.) - This unique 3-day exciting, fast-paced program is designed for high-ability 8th-9th grade students who have an interest in a health care career. Students engage in hands-on learning, presentations, tours, group activities, and academic planning. Northeast Minnesota AHEC works in collaboration with health care facilities and academic institutions throughout the region.
- Health Occupation Students of America (H.O.S.A.) - H.O.S.A. is a national student organization whose mission is to promote career opportunities in health care and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. Northeast Minnesota AHEC provides technical assistance and education recommendations to H.O.S.A. chapters located in our region. H.O.S.A. is for 9th-12th grade students.
- Across the World in Your Own Backyard - This day-long program developed by the University of Minnesota's Health Careers Center, gives high school students the opportunity to tour the U’s laboratories and meet with students and faculty who specialize in rural medicine.
- Customized health careers exploration programs - Northeast Minnesota AHEC can develop programs specific to your school or classroom needs. Contact the Health Careers Specialist to see how AHEC can help you with your program.
