Health Careers Exploration for Students
Are you a student interested in exploring health care careers? Then check out these exciting opportunities. You’ll learn about health care career opportunities with a rural emphasis, and you’ll have fun!

- Health Career Puppets - This is the only one of its kind in Minnesota aimed at K-2nd grade students. The Health Career Puppets go on a “Great Hospital Adventure” meeting different people in various health care careers.
- Health Career Enrichment Program (H.C.E.P.) - These distinctive educational kits are for 1st-6th grade classrooms. Each kit contains different hands-on activities, worksheets, books and videos that focus on healthy habits and health careers.
- Health Occupations Today (H.O.T.) - This unique 3-day exciting, fast-paced program is designed for high-ability 8th-9th grade students who have an interest in a health care career. Students engage in hands-on learning, presentations, tours, group activities, and academic planning. Northeast Minnesota AHEC works in collaboration with health care facilities and academic institutions throughout the region.
Applications for 2008 H.O.T. programs are due in mid-May.
- Health Occupation Students of America (H.O.S.A.) - H.O.S.A. is a national student organization whose mission is to promote career opportunities in health care and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. Northeast Minnesota AHEC provides technical assistance and education recommendations to H.O.S.A. chapters located in our region. H.O.S.A. is for 9th-12th grade students.
- Health Careers Investigators is a day-long program developed by the University of Minnesota's Health Careers Center, gives high school students the opportunity to tour the U’s laboratories and meet with students and faculty who specialize in rural medicine. Health Careers Investigators will take place in Spring 2009.
