Central Minnesota AHEC
Central Minnesota AHEC promotes rural health educational opportunities and addresses health workforce challenges unique to the fourteen-county region.
Region
The Central Minnesota AHEC Region boasts a wide variety of natural scenery which makes for a range of things to see and do. This region is a definite crossroads for distinct environments where the plains and prairies, forests, and lakes all meet. It's a land with tales to tell -- of Vikings, voyageurs and Charles Lindbergh. Additionally, it is the home to a number of higher education institutions. Our host facility is the Minnesota State Community and Technical College campus in Fergus Falls.
Community Culture
With the wealth of cultural and historical attractions in addition to the numerous popular lake destinations, the central region is regarded as vacation area. From small town to big city, there is always a wide mix of things going on in the central region.
With the retiree population growing rapidly and in-migration to the region’s lakes areas, the demand for construction and services has increased resulting in job growth in the larger cities. In contrast, the region’s more rural prairie areas have seen an out-migration among the young and declining populations. Healthcare jobs are projected to have the fasted growth and some of the higher wages in the region. Retail, manufacturing and accommodations and food service are cornerstone industries across the region.
Central Minnesota AHEC includes the counties of Big Stone, Clay, Crow Wing, Douglas, Grant, Morrison, Otter Tail, Pope, Stearns, Stevens, Todd, Traverse, Wadena and Wilkin.
